There is no workout quite like the one you'll get at Guildford Kickboxing Club. It's the best workout of your life... guaranteed! You'll be excited about the classes because they're fun and motivating. You'll feel better about yourself because you'll gain self-confidence, increase your energy level, sculpt your body and learn self-defense skills.
When you have gained enough experience & can demonstrate good control you will be encouraged to partake in sparring, although this is done in a strict & controlled manner. Until you are able to display this level of control you will not be invited to join any sparring.
Some students are interested in competition and for these fighters the training is elevated to ensus you will be expected to be hitting the pads 'full contact' to ensure that these techniques would actually work. Some of the more modern kickboxing clubs have taken away the effectiveness of the techniques by concentrating more on the point scoring/sport side of kickboxing, with Guildford Kickboxing you will learn how to use your skills in a realistic situation, not just on the mat.
The nature of the club is one of personal improvement and evolution of skills, wth each class students see tangible development. There are no belts or gradiings (as in karate) though there are awards to acknowledge and celebrate improvers and high achievers. Most students progress significantly and combine their martial arts training with other sports and gym work. Once a student has achieved a strong standard of combat ability they are offered the oppertuinity to test themselves by fighting on behalf of the club at tournatments. These range from local interclub competitions up to the Bristish National WAKO kick boxing tournament.
Training takes a number of complimentary forms, a combination of fitness, padwork, boxing technique, fighting skills, defense, one to one coaching, sparring and conditioning go towards moulding our fighters. In additon to the club philosphy Denni often arranges guest instructors to bring the beneift of their experience to the class. Recent seminars have been hosted by UK K1 fighter Gary Turner and Knock Down Karate specialist Darren Chan.
Because of Denni's background in the KJK and many years of squad training with students entering Knockdown Karate, low kicks are used in the training session. However, these are again done with strict control, kicking with the top of the foot (not the shin) to the thigh, low kicks open up a whole new world for people interested in learning Kickboxing.
Two of the assets that Guildford Kickboxing are continually being held in esteem for are their ability to perform good technique under pressure & always demonstrating good etiquette, even in the most challenging situations. While the training is hard and intense it's also designed to be fun. On sunny evenings we also train outside.
